Terminology[]

A jelly, popularly called a jellyfish, is a term used to describe an animal from the class Scyphozoa. They are all types of gelatinous zooplankton. All though in most scientific cases not all gelatinous zooplanktons are referred to as "jellies" due to some of their large anatomical differences, jellyfish are usually used broadly, which includes all gelatinous zooplanktons and Ctenophoras. For the common human, a jellyfish is recognized as an animal in the class Scyphozoa, or another animal baring a general resemblance (as is the case with the Portuguese Man O' War). As jellyfish are technically not fish, due to their lack of a spine, jellyfish is considered a misnomer, and are referred to as sea jellies or jellies by scientific based sites, people, and public aquariums. So, really, what a jellyfish or jelly is depends on who you ask.
