Red Lionfish (P. volitans) is a reef animal found in many areas. The Lionfish's spines are very venomous and can kill easily.

Their striking red colors are a warning to others, a sign that it is venomous. These animals make their homes in reefs of the south pacific or around Hawaii, though due to being released as pets in areas such as Florida and Bermuda, they have began taking over the Atlantic.

Atlantic Ocean InvasionEdit

The Red Lionfish is known as an Invasive species in the Western Atlantic, due to them being released from home aquariums around the area. Because this species is practically an apex predator in its new territory, there is nothing stopping it- unless humans contribute. The REEF organization has lionfish derbies, where competitors kill as many lionfish (in the Atlantic) as they can. Hopefully this will help drive down the population, but the lionfish reproduce fast and are still being released from home aquariums.
